Amazing Room 5 Swimming

Our first blog post written as a class!!  Last week and this week we have been swimming along with the rest of NBC at QE2. We go every day for 2 weeks and we go just after morning tea each day. The girls get changed in the hall and the boys get changed in the toilets.  We walk in a line behind Saffron the line leader, then we walk up the stairs into the bus to greet the bus driver lastly sit down quietly on your seat next to a sensible person.  At swimming, we are learning to swim safely, we are learning to:  - Sculling on our backs  - Floating mushrooms - Rocket ships with our hands in the air behind our ears  - Jump safely into the deep pool.  - Learning how to swim on deep surfaces  - Rolling logs  - Back and arm circles to tread the water to stay afloat  - Dolphin dives  - Safety messages  - Strokes such as backstroke  We learn these things in 3 groups with different instructors. A creative week in Room 5!

 Room 5 has had a busy time with lots of creating this week! On Tuesday we started our morning off with some prop making to use in our plays on Wednesday morning. We had lots of fun using funky scissors and different coloured cardboard to create different props for our 'characters'.  In Topic we have been learning about communities, and a few weeks ago we had worked together to create a community called Sparkle Town, so after lunch we created a 3D model of 'Sparkle Town'. We worked either on our own or in pairs to create something from our community with play-dough, and we then shared our creations and put them on the town map. On Wednesday we presented our plays to the class, which was lots of fun. We had been working really hard on learning to read with expression and use body movements to show our characters.
